DPL Championship Bound Eagles 3

Championship bound Eagles 3 huddles after the huge and historical victory.

Some have called this game a "Miracle on Ice" and some called it history in the making. However, the Eagles 3rd team call their third game in the semi-finals as their final hurdle on the road to their Division V Championship Game. Their appearance in the Championship Game will be Eagles 3 first ever appearance in a Championship!! Also, they are the first Eagles team to land a slot in a Championship.

The game started a little rocky for the Eagles when the Tigers 2 opened the game scoring in the first two and half minutes. However, the Eagle's fan did not stop their cheering and it paid off big when Ludwig Schweinfurth, with assist from Collin Keller, stole the puck on a forecheck and then beat the goalie to tie the game! This ended the first period with a tie of 1-1.

The second period was very eventful and very tiring to watch. Both teams chased each other to both ends of the rink for over eight minutes, whew--needed a beer break just watching them! However, the Eagles decided they had been tied for long enough and it was time for another goal. Brandon Phelps was the one who decided it was time to beat that tie, with a pass from Adam Mainwaring, took a beautiful, low shot to sneak one past the goalie. This ended the second period with the Eagles up one, by 2-1.

Not sure what kind of talk the Eagles had before the puck dropped to start the third, but it must have been some kind of talk. As soon as the puck dropped, Brandon Phelps passed to Luke Catanella and nine seconds into the start of the third period, Catanella had a fast attack in the zone to increase the Eagles lead.

However, the Tigers 2 did not want to give up their chance to go to the Championship Game and they managed to slip one in. Goalie Martin Spengler had some amazing saves throughout the game and definitely helped the Eagles to victory.

The Eagles did not want their first opportunity to go to the Championship Game and only win by one. He may have been out for some time now, due to a snowboarding incident, but Kurt Brower made sure that his first game back, he got some quality time with the puck. Brower got a piece of a rebound and shot a beautiful high backhand.

The final score of the last game of the semi-finals for Eagles 3 is 4-2.

The Eagles will compete in the Championship Game on April 11th at 1900 (7 pm for non-military) in Viernheim versus the SG Stern Vikings II!

Come out and watch as history is made as Eagles 3 competes for FIRST PLACE!!!
